About A.S.I.
Supporting Supervisors. Advancing the Profession.
The Association of Supervisors in Ireland was established by a team with decades of experience in both delivering and teaching supervisory practice. Our mission is to support and elevate the profession across a wide range of sectors in Ireland, while fostering an inclusive, engaged community of practitioners, supervisees, educators, and allied organisations.

Our Story
The ASI was founded on the belief that supervision is a distinct, skilled, and vital professional practice — one that deserves its own dedicated membership body. For too long, supervisors have worked at the edges of other professional bodies, without a dynamic organisation focused solely on their development, representation, and professional standards.
We saw the need for a body determined not just to represent supervisors, but to actively progress the profession — expanding its reach, deepening its training pathways, and aligning with national and European trends in professional development.
Meet The Team
The founders of the Association of Supervisors in Ireland bring over three decades of experience in supervision and mental health practice. Their professional journey has spanned private clinical work, public sector roles, and the training and development of future therapists across a variety of disciplines.
At the centre of their philosophy is the belief that supervision is not simply oversight, but a collaborative, reflective process that nurtures growth, safeguards ethics, and sustains long-term professional resilience. Their supervisory style is grounded in respect, relational safety, and a deep appreciation for the complexities of therapeutic work.
ASI was formally established in 2018, shortly after Dr. James Kinane began delivering supervision training modules at ICHAS. With the support and encouragement of the college authorities — and in collaboration with supervision colleagues — James laid the groundwork for what would become ASI.
Other trusted peers contributed to the design of our formal accreditation process, helping to set high and pluralistic standards from the outset.
From the beginning, ASI aims not only to represent supervisors, but to advance the profession — by building community, promote high standards, supporting continuing development, and strengthening the visibility and value of supervision in professional practice across an expanding number of professions Ireland.
